Implementing flashcards is crucial because it bridges the gap between recording information (Noteey's current task) and actively memorizing and effectively reviewing it. Notes alone are passive; flashcards make studying active, leveraging the principles of spaced repetition and active retrieval to optimize learning.
The main utility lies in allowing users to directly transform fragments of their notes into questions and answers for review.
Utility: Maximize knowledge retention, facilitate quick and targeted review, and reduce the need to switch to external study tools.
Key Features:
Quick Creation: Users should be able to highlight a section of the note and turn it into a flashcard (question/answer) with a single tap.
Spaced Repetition: An integrated algorithm that schedules card review based on the user's perceived difficulty.
Synchronization: Flashcards should be linked to the original note for immediate context.
Everyone who want to remember and learn things using effective learning methods.
The idea is simple yet is so powerful and extremely useful for:
students
learners
researchers
who wants to extrapolate informations from PDFs, videos, cards you've created
I’d suggest to use the main features of Noteey: the cards.
There are a lot of options on how to implement this features, here are some suggestions.
Like Traverse, the creation of a button or icon like “tags”, “info” etc. Inside the card there would be a separate portion divided by an horizontal line, an heading or other stuff where you have all your flashcards related to the one card and topic.
Much similar to RemNote, while you’re writing your notes about that topic inside the card by using some classified gesture like: “==”, “::” or similar to create flashcards. It would be amazing if the classic way of using RemNote to create flashcards could be implemented to Noteey, that would make Noteey an extremely powerful and innovative app which cointan all the hottest and most useful features.
A separate function through the cards. You can create a “Flashcard Card” where you can store all you questions and flashcard about that particular project.
Logseq/Obsidian way by using the tags: “#flashcard” or “card” or similar, next to the sentence you want to turn into a flashcard. There would be some markdown rules to make this run like in these two apps.
These are few suggestions, I know they might be really hard to project and implement but these would increment the spectrum of users in a good way, I believe.
You don’t want just to create flashcards, you need to review them! I believe this is the easy part. I have some suggestions:
A Brand New view option on the side bar, under the Library icon, with an explanatory icon.
By going to the same card where you create the flashcards.
By projects, every projects would have an option to review the flashcard inside the cards they are related to.
I do believe that the first option is by far the best but also the most complex to implement. The other suggestions would be amazing as an addition to the major panel on the side bar.
The dream would be to have an extremely powerful and minimal UI about the Flashcard option on the side bar. Different view by Pojects, by Tags; the option to change the “Deck” of the flashcard from one to another. Don’t just direct the flashcard into a Deck identical to the Project’s Name, but the option to create deck for the flashcards.
I believe that there are many development options here, but starting from the most minimal one for then implement and improve by time.
Despite the challenges, integrating flashcards would be a great feature for Noteey because:
Market Differentiation: It sets Noteey apart from the multitude of note-taking apps, positioning it as an “all-in-one” solution for students and professionals.
Increased Engagement: Encourages users to return to the app not only to take notes, but also to study, increasing retention time and loyalty.
Increased Value Proposition: Transforms Noteey from a simple editor to an essential learning tool, potentially justifying a premium subscription model for advanced study features.
Improved Ecosystem: Creates an ecosystem where the act of note-taking immediately generates added value in the form of ready-to-use study material.
Thanks for this beautiful app, is powerful, minimal and yet with so many options and characteristics. I love it!
Thank you very much for the hard work behind all the updates.
We, as a community, appreciate the app and the people behind this project.
With all due respect.
